An increase in reactive power consumption results an electricity costs. This negative phenomenon can be prevented by using compensation methods. One of them is the installation capacitors. These capacitors are exposed to external conditions, such as temperature and humidity. As a consequence, aging process occurs. Another corrosion that occurs inside capacitor result moisture absorption. this phenomenon, damaged. symptoms ongoing temperature. Capacitors designed for operate at mains voltage. They often placed switchgear. For reason, use contact methods measurement difficult dangerous. alternative thermographic measurement. Determining internal case possible with numerical FEM (Finite Element Method). The on housing obtained from simulation work were verified comparing Both values differed 0.2 °C. On basis defined model, differences between determined simulation. A simplification was proposed replacing cylinder made layers homogeneous cylinder.
